Effective Teams and Individuals

Effective team work is critical to organisational effectiveness. Teams can generate new ideas which lead to organisation wide improvement, be this in the provision of new services, reduction in complexity and cost or new ways of meeting with service users. Many teams fail to work as well as they might because not enough conscious effort is invested in building and supporting them.

Teams often fail because the members cannot define or relate to the overall goal and their own roles in the team are unclear. Perhaps most importantly there is a lack of awareness of the interpersonal dynamics between the team members and a lack of skill in handling these dynamics.

Some of the relevant factors to consider in inquiring of teams include:

  • Is a team needed or a work group?
  • Overall purpose of the team
  • Composition of the team
  • Permanence of the team – permanent, temporary
  • Location of the team – physically located or virtual
  • How effective is it?
  • What factors help or hinder team effectiveness?

Personal Impact! Limited is highly skilled at inquiring into and supporting teams to become more effective. We use a process of inquiry which explores the member’s own awareness of what they bring to the team. We do this with one to one inquiry using examples of how they work in the team, feedback from other team members, the use of psychometric instruments such as MBTI , 16PF and the Bar-On Eqi and other appropriate tools. We then bring this together to look at the dynamics of the team as a whole and work with what the organisation and team thinks is the most appropriate.

In a dynamic business environment it is critical to build and acquire new skills in order to respond to the market. We are able to link interpersonal skills with technical, functional and process skills. Here is a sample of the many courses that we offer:

  • Developing Emotional Intelligence
  • Managing oneself
  • Managing others
  • Creating a winning attitude
  • Influencing for a successful outcome
  • Flexible thinking
  • Effective communication
  • Giving and receiving feedback

In some cases further one to one work can be conducted to increase personal effectiveness in the team. See the sections of Executive Coaching and Mentoring and Personal Development
